Lamp hanger in colorFabb_XT

As these things go, summer is coming to an end and days are getting shorter. To continue that much needed work in the garden in the evening hours more light is needed. We do not print light, but we can print the fixtures for the lamp. This custom designed lamp hanger brings the solution. Printed with colorFabb_XT it shows once again a functional (and in this case, a much needed) application for 3D printing.

colorFabb_XT is made with Amphora AM1800 and was the first material we launched together with Eastman Chemical Company back in 2014.

It has a unique formulation for 3D Printing that features excellent properties : High strength and very high toughness, Odor Neutral processing, High Tg / improved temp. resistance, Styrene free formulation, FDA food contact compliance, BPA (Bisphenol A ) free formulation. It will allow the user to produce 3D printed functional products in a safe way. Eastman Amphora™ 3D polymer is a low-odor, styrene-free choice that is uniquely suited for 3D printing applications. With Amphora, items can be created that are more functional, more durable, more efficient, and attractive.

About nGen

nGen is made from Eastman Amphora™ AM3300 3D polymer. Like colorFabb_XT, it is part of Eastman’s Amphora range of copolyesters for 3D printing.

nGen is a low-odor, styrene-free material uniquely suited for 3D printing enthusiasts, particularly those who need the flexibility to print within a wide processing temperature range. With nGen you will have good flow properties through the printer nozzle—even at lower temperatures than some other polymers require. These properties make nGen more workable at a wider breadth of temperatures, producing reliable results and resulting in less waste.

Amphora 3300 has been made into high-quality filament that exhibits advanced overhang ability, excellent looks, and large printing temperature range—empowering large panel of users to create durable and useful items. With the unique combination of a low processing temperature and an elevated temperature resistance, nGen can quickly print creations that are functional, durable, efficient, and attractive.

steelFill canon

Check out the canon printed entirely with colorFabb materials. We have printed this entire canon with steelFill and the basis was printed with one of our other special filaments: woodFill

You can see how to print with steelFill on our tutorial page: https://learn.colorfabb.com/how-to-print-with-steelfill/

steelFill: available today

“Steel yourself”
Today we are happy to announce the release of our new metal based filament:
1

Iron Man Bust by Geoff.W – http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:571321

Announced at the AM Show in Amsterdam end of June this new specialty material is available as from today.
With steelFill we are adding a fourth metal based filament to our portfolio after succesfully announcing bronzeFill in 2014, copperFill later that year and brassFill in early 2015. As with these other filaments, the key is post-processing and you can use similar techniques as with our other special metal based filaments.

Print Settings

Probably the biggest difference compared to 3D printing our other metal infused filaments would be our advice to change your regular brass nozzle for a steel or hardened steel nozzle. The steel powder we use for steelFill can affect the brass nozzle after printing enough of this material, for better reliability on the long run a steel nozzle is recommended.

Other settings such as, printing temperature, heated buildplatform, layerheight, cooling and retraction will be covered in our tutorial.

ColorFabb Cannon – by Labern – https://www.youmagine.com/designs/colorfabb-cannon

Post Processing

After printing steelFill will have nice matte drak gray finish. With similar polishing techniques used on bronzeFill, copperFill and brassFill it’s possible to smooth out the outer surface and expose the metal particles. Now the surface start’s to resemble a dark glossy steel look. SteelFill won’t rust, since the powder is stainless steel.

steelFill is the latest addition to our expanding range of special materials.

Rocket ship printed with nGen filamant

On the Ultimaker forum Joel Mongeon posted his version of the gCreate rocket ship, printed with nGen. In his words:

A spaceship printed and painted for my toddler who loves “wockets”!

This is the gCreate rocket that can be downloaded here: http://www.gcreate.com/#!3d-model—gcreate-rocket/c1k6o

Printed with Colorfabb nGen. I cut off the tip of the rocket and used a hot tool to round it off. I then used a lot (maybe too much) XTC 3D to smooth the layer lines and add strength to the print. Finally used some shiny metallic paint and a layer of shellac to seal the deal.

3D printer: Ultimaker 2+

Nozzle diameter: 0.40 mm

Layer resolution: 81-100 micron
