The writing’s on the wall, they say. As posted in the past 24 hours (here and here), we have printed the colorFabb letters and put them on the wall in our new building:
Now, traditionally, one could employ a sign maker and have these made the old-fashioned way. We decided, after printing the Stacker logo (previous post can be found here) to also print our own name and put it big on the wall in the main office.
We recently already posted about this when we were printing the letters:
We printed of course on the biggest printer we have: the Stacker S4 and used a single nozzle. Each letter took approximately on average 20 hours to print. We used PLA Economy Silver to print this project.
And yes, that is the Saturn V rocket, printed by Korneel Bullens (full blog post here) right in front of the window where a lot of people who come by need to stop and have a good look.
The tallest letters reach a full 50cm and the entire sign is 2.6 meters wide. The weight of all the letters combined is 3875 grams.
We used the following basic settings for printing the letters: 0,16mm layerheight; 2 perimeters with the 0,50mm nozzle; 5 top- and 4 bottom layers and only 6% infill.
In order to stick the letters to the wall we used a few cm of double-sided tape spread around each letter.

The Stacker S4 is a terrific printer for printing signs and the sign industry is already showing a lot of interest in this printer and 3D printing in general. The maximum print size of the S4 is 355x525x655mm, which we fully used for this project.
We launched PLA Economy in November last year and has been a best seller ever since. They look great! Would you mind sharing the print details? You mentioned 15% infill, how about the rest of the settings? Nozzle size and layer height? How many shells? How many top & bottom layers?
Also, how did you attach them to the wall? Did you build in some sort of nail recess into the backs?
Actually we ended up tuning it down to 6% infill even.
